You can complete the transfer in under an hour if you have the following:

  • The vehicle’s NSW registration
  • The registration plate number
  • Any applicable concession details
  • Purchase details: date of purchase and sale price or market value (whichever is higher)

When You Must Transfer In Person

You’ll need to visit a Service NSW Centre if:

  • The previous owner has not submitted a Notice of Disposal
  • You purchased the vehicle on behalf of a business or organisation, or from interstate
  • You’re transferring the vehicle due to the death of the registered owner
  • You’re the carer or guardian of the vehicle’s owner
  • The vehicle is classified as heavy (gross vehicle mass over 4.5 tonnes)
